Greg The New Jameco Catalog Has Been Delivered!

Catalog 101 kicks off our 35th anniversary and we're excited to feature design and engineering excellence this year. If you haven't received your free catalog, please click here and we'll get one right out to you.

Jameco CatalogOur first cover of 2010 highlights the new Hoover Dam Bypass on the Nevada and Arizona border and is packed with 200 pages of name brand, house brand and factory-overrun inventory all at the lowest prices in the industry.

Unfortunately, the phrase “lowest prices in the industry” has been worn thin and few of us believe claims like this anymore. Doesn’t everyone say this? Well, let me try to prove it... brand new AA or AAA alkaline batteries at just 20¢ each! Do I have your attention?

See what I'm talking about here.

Last but not least, I want to thank you for all the e-mail responses I’ve received from the newsletters. I read and respond to all my e-mail personally and it’s refreshing to see how many people like to get involved. I get excited by customer suggestions and complaints alike and spend a good part of my day implementing improvements inspired by e-mails from our newsletter readers. We aren’t perfect, but hopefully we're doing something right.

Thanks for your support.

Regards,
Greg Harris

DIY Workshop

Let There Be Light

Sensing Light

All God had to do was say “let there be light” and there was light, but training a computer to recognize light presents a few challenges for us mere mortals. Our friends at Chipaxe have written a great project for sensing light that you can use to train your system to recognize light from dark.

Try your hand with these step-by-step instructions.

Please don’t hesitate to share your invention or project with the Jameco community. It’s a great way to show off your solutions to every day problems. Submit your story to MyStory@Jameco.com. If we use your story we'll give you a $50 Jameco gift certificate.

Jameco Salutes

Dr. Douglas C. Engelbart

Dr Douglas EngelbartJameco salutes inventor Dr. Douglas C. Engelbart. It’s reasonable to assume that all of our readers are intimate with at least one of the inventions of this computer pioneer. First demonstrated publically in 1968, Engelbart seemed more focused on establishing his X’s and Y’s than becoming a founding father of the modern computer. As is often the case, it took over a decade before his invention would be popularized by Apple Computers.

Find out what Dr. Engelbart invented here.

In The News

A New High In Wi-Fi

WiFiThe next generation of Wi-Fi technology has finally made it from draft specification to standard after a mere seven years. While some may think they have already purchased 802.11n products, we learn from Electronic Design that the new standard improves upon both speed and range, but at least one significant drawback still remains.
