Greg's Corner My 14 year-old complained that one of his friends was weird. I responded that all my friends are weird. In fact, why would you ever want a friend who wasn't a little weird? To be weird is to be different, unique and unusual. That's exactly what I want in a friend. Of course teenagers are still uncomfortable being different and we only become comfortable with our weirdness as we mature.

There was a time when Jameco tried very hard to fit in. We tried to be like everyone else, but in the last year, we have rediscovered ourselves. We now proudly fly our weird flag, and we're looking for weird customers too. We're looking for weird customers who call or write to suggest a product we aren't carrying (we add them all the time based on customer suggestions). We want weird customers who can teach us how to improve and actually expect us to change on the spot (sometimes we trip over ourselves trying to quickly jump on a customer suggestion). We want weird customers who will trust that we'll take care of them if something goes wrong. You know Jameco is different and our reputation is our most valued asset.

Jameco is different. We've worked hard to be a great source for the electronics hobbyist who used to love to hang out at the old Radio Shack stores (and we mean “old”). We are different because we source products you won't find from other suppliers-typically house brand and special buys that are priced below what you would expect to pay. Jameco is different because we're small enough to be focused on earning your business every time you call or click.

As we near the close of our 35th anniversary year, Jameco is certainly your mature choice in the electronic components industry. We know we're a little different, and we hope you'll come to love us because of it. Regards,
Greg Harris

The Jameco Challenge

The Jameco Challenge

Recall in last month’s newsletter we took a challenge from reader Marshall Hankins who wanted help collectively inventing the daylight equivalent to a laser pointer? He envisions a pocket device that can emit a black beam as a pointer.

We heard from many of you that physics gets in the way of this invention and yet that didn't stop many of you embracing the challenge.

Read for yourself what Jameco readers came up with.

Jameco welcomes the contributions of its customers. Frankly, we think what you write is more interesting than anything we could write. Share your electronic component story, project, or challenge and we'll share it with the world. Send your story to [email protected]

Jameco has traditionally offered its customers a Clearance Center, but we've just added two new Special Price Centers. We've taken a handful of our best selling products and put them in a new Monthly Specials section to give you some added incentive.

But we didn't stop there. Jameco has repriced over 5,000 SKUs which represent more than 15 million components in lots as large as 1,000 pieces all priced at just 99¢... that's right. Now hobbyists, engineers, and educators alike can rejoice in components priced well below our cost.
