Forrest M. Mims III joins Club Jameco creating companion kits for famous book series

Best selling Engineer's Mini Notebook series kits are available exclusively at Club Jameco

Club Jameco is proud to announce its new partnership with Forrest M. Mims III to bring life to his designs for electronics kits from the pages of his best selling series the Engineer's Mini Notebooks.

"Forrest Mims is one of the most recognizable ‘popular scientists,’" said Greg Harris, Jameco Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "We're excited that Forrest has chosen Club Jameco's ‘build-your-own electronics kit’ website to bring his famous notebook series to life. Engineers have long loved the series and these hands-on kits are perfect for any electronics enthusiast."

The most widely read electronics author in the world, Forrest M. Mims is completely self-taught. A consummate inventor and innovator, the amateur scientist was the first to recognize that LEDs not only emit light, but also act as light sensors, a phenomenon known as the "Mims Effect." Mims received special permission when in the US Air Force to work with lasers and rocket guidance systems, despite not having an engineering degree.

"Most people don't realize that I don't have a degree in electronics. My electronics background is self-taught and began with the germanium diode radio I built at the age of 11," said Forrest M. Mims III. "Club Jameco is a way for any electronics hobbyist to do as I did and transform the fun of building electronic circuits into practical projects and even a business."

The famous Mini Notebooks series has sold over half a million copies world-wide. They provide topic overviews, tips, history and electronic circuit projects that Mims built and tested himself. The hand-lettered and hand-illustrated are meant to re-create the look of Mims' own laboratory notebooks, and the projects represent the span of his years of research, writing, and teaching experimental science. Available exclusively at Club Jameco, the kits are built from Mims' own designs and include all the required electronics components and step-by-step instructions.

The Mims designed Stepped Tone Generator circuit has become widely popular among electronics enthusiasts because of its endless variations and flexibility. This circuit, now known as the Atari Punk Console Kit, may prove to be a top kit with Club Jameco members who can vote and comment on all projects as a gauge of popularity. The newly designed kit based on the 555 timer is available at Club Jameco.
