Publications by Forrest M. Mims III By the reaction we got when Jameco first started working with Forrest M. Mims III in 2008, you would've thought that we had signed one of the last living members of The Beatles to help us write content for our newsletter. Forrest has an enthusiastic base of long-time followers. We heard from many customers that Forrest was a major electronics influence in their lives and that they still had his original books. Forrest may be best known for his creation of the Engineer's Mini-Notebook, a series of instructional books, which were first sold in Radio Shack stores. While Forrest's publications are too long to list here, we think Discover Magazine summed it up nicely when they named Forrest as one of the "50 Best Brains in Science" in 2008. Overwhelmed and excited with our Forrest fan mail, we recently added five of his most famous books to our product offering: Send all feedback to feedback@jameco.com
As a crash-course, we don't believe there's a better notebook for beginners in electronics, but please don't hesitate to let us know if you believe otherwise – we always appreciate reader response. This book begins with the basics (i.e., diodes & transistors) and quickly moves onto explaining digital integrated circuits and circuit assembly tips. Add a few color pictures and this could easily become an electronics textbook for university courses. A comprehensive compilation of Forrest's own handwritten lab notes make it even more meaningful. Forrest doesn't stop at theory though; this book drips with practicality because it includes a collection of 100 hand-tested electronic circuits for building. Any lifelong student of electrical engineering will definitely want to put Forrest's entire collection on his/her bookshelf. |
