What to Consider When Selecting a Power Cord

  • Plug type (male end)
  • Receptacle type (female end)
  • Gauge of wire or amps needed
  • Cable length
  • Jacket type and color

Domestic Power Cords

North American power cords follow National Electrical Manufacturers Association standards and are UL and CSA approved. NEMA plugs include the common 2-prong and 3-prong plug types for traditional household receptacles as well as "L" twist-locking type plugs for heavy industrial and commercial equipment.

IEC/Jumper Power Cords

Ideal for data centers, computers, monitors, peripherals, instrument amplifiers, UPS units and pro audio equipment. The International Electro-Technical Commission is responsible for standardizing the plugs and connectors used in information technology. We have two different types, the standard IEC cords and the Universal cords. Our popular Universal IEC cords come with UL, CUL and VDE approvals which makes them truly universal around the globe Jameco also offers a variety of colored IEC/Jumper cords to color code your systems and reduce the clutter of your cords.

IEC Auto-Lock Power Cords

These heavy-duty power cords are equipped with a unique locking mechanism which keeps your cords safely attached. The locking device is located in the ground socket which grips to the inlet blade to keep it completely secure. Convenient red tabs on the side of the connector make for an easy disconnection.

International Power Cords

There are a few standard designs for power cords that cover the world. Quail Electronics offers every International power cord across the globe. Each cord comes with its own approvals for the appropriate area.

Hospital Grade Power Cords

The green dot on a power cord assures the safety and reliability of the product in the medical field. It is an important indication that the device will withstand the rigorous demands in an industry where peak performance at all times is critical to the lives of not only the patients in need, but, the practitioners who use the equipment daily for the betterment of those they serve.
