Electronics Challenge: Burning the Midnight Oil

It's 3 a.m. and Greg has interrupted a perfectly good dream to make an unscheduled trip to the toilet, much to his chagrin. Jealous that he is the only member of his family that has to endure this nightly ritual, he shuffles across the hall. That's when out of the corner of his eye he sees the light in his son's room burning away. Trying to shake away the fog in his head he wonders why there's a light on in his son's room...

This recurring problem is not uncommon

He sees what looks a bit like a sea otter floating on its back, but instead of breaking shell fish over a strategically placed rock, this teenager is balancing his computer on his chest with his mouth wide open and his neck twisted at an uncomfortable angle. He is fast asleep and this is not an isolated incident.

What Greg really needs right now is an electrical engineer. Unclear about why his son can't recognize sleep approaching, turn off the light and tuck himself into bed, we wonder if there is a technological solution to this recurring problem.
