The Triad Magnetics ALS50-5 is a 50 W single-output open-frame switching power supply from the ALS 50 series, designed for general purpose applications. It delivers a regulated 5 V output at up to 9 A and accepts a universal AC input range of 90-264 V at 47-63 Hz, as well as a DC input range of 120-370 V. With 70% efficiency, the supply is suited for embedded systems, instrumentation, industrial controls, and other equipment requiring a stable 5 V rail.
The ALS50-5 includes built-in protection features that simplify system design. Both over-current and over-voltage protection operate with auto-recovery, engaging at >120% and >105% of rated values respectively. The output is adjustable within ±10%, allowing fine-tuning to accommodate cable drops or specific load requirements. No minimum load is required, which provides flexibility in light-load or standby conditions. Line and load regulation of ±1% and ±2% respectively, combined with a hold-up time of 17 ms at full load and 110 VAC, ensure stable output during brief input interruptions. The unit meets EN55022, VCCI, and CISPR22 Class A conducted and radiated emissions standards and carries UL 60950 safety approval, supporting deployment in commercial and industrial environments.
The open-frame construction measures 127 mm x 76.2 mm x 35.6 mm and weighs 300 g, enabling integration within enclosed equipment or chassis. Cooling is by convection, with full-load operation rated from 0-50 °C and derating at 3.0%/°C up to 60 °C. Input connections use a Molex 09-50-3031 housing, while output connections use a Molex 09-50-3061 housing, both with Molex 08-50-0105 terminals. Input-to-output dielectric strength is rated at 3 kVAC for one minute. Designers should verify that the convection-cooled thermal envelope and open-frame form factor are compatible with the target enclosure's airflow and mechanical constraints, and should confirm that the ripple and noise specification of 75 mV peak-to-peak at the 5 V output meets downstream circuit requirements.
